Fritz and Jeri

On a warm summer evening about the year 1960, my sister Jeri was playing the piano after everyone had gone to bed.

Our piano was in the den which had an outside door, that led to the carport. She had been playing for an hour or so, enjoying the pleasant, cool night air, that offered a welcomed breeze through the open door, when Jeri decided to end the evening of song by playing with gusto, "The Star Spangled Banner".

Our dear friends and neighbors, Dolly and Fritz Caskey, whose bedroom was next to our carport had their bedroom window open for the same reason of enjoying the cool night air while sleeping.

Fritzy, an officer in the United States Air Force, had fallen asleep. Dolly was still awake listening and enjoying the music.

Suddenly, Fritzy jumped out of bed, and while still asleep, saluted at full military attention, in his pajamas.
